Biography

Barry has been racing since the early 80’s, started out on a crew in Hobby Stock, IMCA team, drove mechanics races and even won a couple demolition derbies back in those days. He was a tech inspector for the Cascar street stock series (Canadian Nascar) at the Hythe Motor Speedway so he got to know a few retired boat racers around the track and they got him into river boating, which naturally led to the desire to start racing jet boats.

The 2011 Great Canadian Marathon River race, The Grande Prairie Rat 200 Jet Boat Race, The Whitecourt Carlan Cup Race, The Peace River Gold Cup Race. The 2015 Canadian World Jet Boat Championship, The Taylor Flats 200 Race.

Rivers Raced in Canada: Wapiti, Smokey, Hay, Peace, McLeod, Athabasca, and Pine Rivers.

2012-2015 USA Races sanctioned by the APBA: Salmon River Jet Boat Races-Riggins, Race the Joe River Race, Thunder on the Snake River

Rivers Raced in USA: Salmon River-Riggins, St. Joe River-St. Maries, Snake River-Lewiston

To start the 2015 season, Barry took first place at the US Salmon River Race, followed up with a third at the US Race the Joe. Then in the 2015 World Jet Boat Championship held in Canada, after 10 days of tight competition, Barry placed with a respectable 4^th place in the world. Wrapping up his season in Lewiston at the Thunder on the Snake, he took first place beating out the 2015 World Champion by a mere 3 seconds. 

Backdraft Jet Boat Racing team was founded by owner Barry Fenton of Grovedale, Alberta Canada in 2011. The team has been actively working towards becoming the overall world CX River Racing Jet boat champion's. Currently Ranked 4 in the CX class in Canada and 1st in the USA. In 2016, Backdraft Jet Boat Racing ranked 3rd in A class for Canada.

The boat is a Bratt jet custom build with the first fuel injected 525 HP 376 by GM. The excellent decision making and abilities of our Driver Barry Fenton has been the main stay for the team being competitive amongst all the great drivers and Race teams from around the world.
